PDF merging guide

How to combine PDFs online

1. Add your PDFs

Choose or drop in every file you want combined. Add more at any time before merging.

2. Put them in order

Drag files -- or individual pages within a file -- into place, or use the arrows. Remove any page you don't need.

3. Merge and download

Combine everything into a single PDF and download it -- no watermark, no size cap on the result.

Exact page order, every time

Files combine in the order they appear in your list, top to bottom. Move a file up or down, or drag it into position, and the merge follows immediately -- there's no separate "confirm order" step to forget.

Drag pages into any order

Open a file's page list to drag individual pages into a new order, nudge them with the up/down arrows, or remove pages you don't need. Removed pages sit to one side and can be added back with a single tap.

No quality loss

Unlike a compressor, merging never re-renders your pages as images. Each page is copied from its source file as-is, so selectable text, embedded fonts and image resolution come through unchanged in the combined PDF.

Broad compatibility

This tool reads standard PDF files from virtually any source -- scans, phone camera apps, Word and Google Docs exports, e-signature tools and other PDF editors. If a file can't be read or is password-protected, it's flagged in the list rather than silently breaking the merge.

Important: password-protected files can't be merged

If a PDF requires a password to open, this tool can't decrypt it, and it will be marked as unavailable in your file list rather than included in the merge. Remove the password from the original file first -- most PDF viewers that can open it can also save an unprotected copy -- then add that copy here.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about merging PDFs

Is the ToolsFA PDF merger free?

Yes. You can combine and download a merged PDF without paying or creating an account.

How many PDFs can I combine at once?

Up to 30 files in one merge, each up to 150 MB. Add them all at once or a few at a time -- you can keep adding files before you merge.

Can I control the order of the combined pages?

Yes. Files merge in the order they're listed. Use the up and down arrows next to each file, or drag it into position, before merging.

Can I merge only some pages from a file, not the whole thing?

Yes. Open "Reorder or remove pages" under any file with more than one page to drag pages into a new order, use the up/down arrows, or remove pages you don't need -- removed pages can be added back with one tap.

Does merging reduce PDF quality?

No. Pages are copied directly from each source file rather than re-rendered as images, so text stays selectable, fonts stay sharp, and nothing is recompressed.

Does ToolsFA upload my PDFs?

No. Every file is opened, combined and downloaded inside your browser. Your files are not uploaded to ToolsFA.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

No. A file that's encrypted or password-protected can't be merged until the password is removed from it first. ToolsFA flags any file it can't read so you know before you merge.

Will this work with PDFs from my phone, a scanner, or Google Docs?

Yes. The merger reads standard PDF files regardless of what created them -- scanners, phone camera apps, Word, Google Docs, and other PDF tools all produce files it can combine.

Can I merge PDFs on my phone?

Yes. The tool works in modern mobile browsers. Very large combined files can be slower on older phones.
