England Salary After-Tax Calculator 2026–27

Enter your salary to estimate take-home pay per year, month, fortnight, week or hour, with PAYE Income Tax, employee National Insurance and optional loan or pension deductions explained.

·

Uses England 2026–27 Income Tax, employee Class 1 NI category A and selected loan rules. Assumes tax code 1257L and one job. Excludes benefits in kind, other allowances, Scottish tax and payroll-period rounding. Calculated privately in your browser.

How the estimate works

Take-home pay, not a tax refund

The calculator annualises the pay you enter and applies the 2026–27 England rates. It starts with the standard £12,570 Personal Allowance, reduces that allowance by £1 for every £2 of adjusted pay above £100,000, and applies the 20%, 40% and 45% Income Tax bands.

Employee Class 1 National Insurance is estimated at 8% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above £50,270. Student loan selections use the 2026–27 plan thresholds; a postgraduate loan can be included at the same time.

The optional pension setting models salary sacrifice: the selected amount is redirected from cash salary before the tax and NI estimate. Actual arrangements depend on your employment contract and pension scheme, and salary sacrifice can affect statutory payments and benefits.

Example: £50,000 salary

  • Income Tax£7,486
  • Employee NI£2,994
  • Take-home pay£39,520
  • Per month£3,293

Assumes England, tax code 1257L, category A NI, no pension or student loan, and a full tax year. Figures are rounded to the nearest pound.

England salary after-tax FAQs

Which tax year and region does this calculator use?+

It uses the 2026–27 Income Tax rates for England and employee Class 1 National Insurance category A. It is not a Scottish Income Tax calculator.

What does the estimate include?+

It includes the standard Personal Allowance and its reduction above £100,000, Income Tax, employee National Insurance, optional pension salary sacrifice, and selected student or postgraduate loan repayments.

What does it leave out?+

It does not model benefits in kind, company cars, multiple employments, non-standard tax codes, Marriage Allowance, Blind Person’s Allowance, employer National Insurance or payroll-period rounding.

Why can my payslip be different?+

Employers calculate PAYE, National Insurance and loan deductions for each pay period using your tax code and payroll records. This calculator annualises your inputs, so rounding, irregular pay and earlier pay in the tax year can change a payslip.

Is this a tax refund calculator?+

No. It estimates take-home pay from employment income. If you want to compare PAYE already deducted with your estimated annual liability, use the separate UK tax refund calculator.

Rules were checked against current HMRC and GOV.UK guidance for Income Tax rates and allowances, employee National Insurance rates, student and postgraduate loan thresholds, and salary sacrifice. Always compare an estimate with your payslip and tax code.
